Close to 25,000 Experiencing Power in South-East Queensland and Victorian Regions Following Intense Storms

Nearly 25,000 homes in southeastern Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, bringing powerful gusts reaching 109km/h.

Large Ice Stones and Broad Impact

Locals observed large ice chunks reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in particular locations. Meteorological experts verified that multiple regions across the state had been affected by significant hail.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams activated to manage the extensive power failures.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, around 1,000 energy customers in Victoria also faced energy failures after the capital city saw its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

Emergency response teams responded to nearly 600 emergency reports across the state, primarily for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

• Wyndham region - nearly 180 emergency requests

At one point on yesterday, in excess of twenty-eight thousand power users in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were expected to linger along significant areas of Queensland's east this next several days as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the wettest day, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across different parts of both areas.

Safety Concern

Health officials alerted that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, especially given the current weather patterns.
